I'm a Weed Too!

I sent my previous post to Carl Braaten, as not doing so seemed a bit like talking about him behind his back. I got a response from him tonight which I will not publish because I wouldn't want it published if I had written it. Suffice to say that it was a rather unfriendly, "if-you-aren't-with-us-you're-against-us" kind of a response.

Welcome to the compost pile with the rest of us.;-)

I read his response to John's letter. I thought it was a tad churlish for someone whom one might assume would want to articulate his point of view to a new Lutheran in a persuasive way.

Compared to the response I got, the response to John was quite positive. But I replied to what he sent me and clarified my concern a bit and he answered in a somewhat more helpful way.

Basically, he doesn't want to talk about the sexuality issues. He sees the way the task force was organized and executed as merely a symptom of a different problem, which is his real concern. His real concern is ecclesiology, which we might expect given his past work. But I don't see how that can be separated from the practical issues which touch actual people's lives.

As Lutheranchik said, the response I received was "a tad churlish" and a bit condescending as well, but it was apparently much more polite than Mel's. I wrote back to Braaten thanking him for taking the time to respond. I also indicated that w,hile we disagree on some of these issues, I pray that he continues to remain a part of this church ahd work to change it from within.
